قليلة هي الأحاسيس التي تثير الفزع في النفس كما يثيره إحساس العجز عن التنفس. ضيق النفس -التي تُعرَف أيضًا بضيق التنفس- هي حالة يحدث فيها ضيق حاد في الصدر، أو احتياج شديد للهواء، أو صعوبة في التنفس، أو انقطاع النفس أو الشعور بالاختناق.

يمكن أن تسبِّب الأنشطة البدنية الشاقة ودرجات الحرارة شديدة الارتفاع أو الانخفاض والسُمنة المفرطة والمرتفعات العالية ضيق النفس لشخص سليم. بالإضافة إلى هذه الأمثلة، من المحتمل أن يكون ضيق النفس علامة على وجود مشكلة طبية.

إذا كان لديك ضيق غير مبرَّر في النفس، خاصةً إذا كان يحدث فجأةً على هيئة نوبات شديدة، فاذهب إلى الطبيب على الفور.
