لم يتضح بعد ما إذا كان تناول الفيتامينات يمكن أن يقلل من خطر الإصابة بأمراض القلب أو الإصابة بنوبة قلبية أم لا. ومن المعروف أنه لا يوجد فيتامين يمكن أن يقي من أمراض القلب إذا لم تسيطر على عوامل الخطر الأخرى. ومن هذه العوامل النظام الغذائي السيئ والتدخين وارتفاع الكوليسترول وداء السكري.

تشير بعض الدراسات إلى أن أنواعًا محددة من الفيتامينات، مثل حمض الفوليك وفيتامين C وفيتامين E، قد تقلل خطر الإصابة بأمراض القلب. لكن لم تثبت تجارب سريرية أوسع نطاقًا هذا الأمر. ولا تنصح جمعية القلب الأمريكية وفرقة الخدمات الوقائية الأمريكية بتناول الفيتامينات للوقاية من أمراض القلب.

تشير بعض الأبحاث إلى وجود علاقة بين انخفاض مستويات فيتامين D في الدم وبين الإصابة بأمراض القلب. لكن كشفت نتائج معظم الأبحاث أن أخذ فيتامين D مع الكالسيوم أو من دونه لم يحد من خطر الإصابة بأمراض القلب أو أي من مضاعفاتها. وإذا كانت لديك أسئلة حول مستوى فيتامين D في حالتك، فتحدث إلى الطبيب.

لا يحتاج معظم الأشخاص الذين يتمتعون بصحة جيدة ويتبعون نظامًا غذائيًا صحيًا إلى تناول جرعات يومية من الفيتامين. تحدث إلى الطبيب إذا كنت قلقًا بشأن تغذيتك. واسأل عما إذا كان تناول الفيتامينات يوميًا قد يكون مفيدًا لك أم لا.

ولعل أفضل ما يمكنك فعله هو إضافة الأطعمة الصحية إلى نظامك الغذائي للمساعدة في الحفاظ على صحة قلبك. احرص على تناول الخضراوات والفواكه والمكسرات والزيوت الصحية والحبوب الكاملة ووجبتي أسماك على الأقل أسبوعيًا. وقلل من تناول الأملاح والسكريات المضافة والدهون المتحولة والدهون المشبعة.
