قد يؤدي قصور الدرقية الذي يُترك دون علاج إلى مشكلات في المفاصل والعضلات لدى بعض الأشخاص. وقد يؤدي قصور الدرقية على وجه التحديد، إلى ما يلي:

  • أوجاع العضلات وإيلامها عند اللمس وتيبُّسها.
  • ألم المفاصل وتيبُّسها، خاصة في اليدين أو القدمين لدى البالغين.
  • تورم المفاصل الصغيرة في اليدين والقدمين.
  • متلازمة النفق الرسغي.

قد تساعد مسكنات الألم المتاحة دون وصفة طبية مثل الأيبوبروفين (Advil، أو Motrin IB، وغيرهما)، أو الأسِيتامينُوفين (Tylenol، وغيره) في تخفيف الألم. ولكن يكون العلاج بدواء بديل الهرمون الدرقي عادةً أكثر الطرق فاعليّة لتخفيف أعراض قصور الدرقية، بما فيها ألم المفاصل والعضلات. فإذا كنت تتناول بديل الهرمون الدرقي، وما زال ألم المفاصل والعضلات مستمرًا، فقد يلزم تغيير جرعة الدواء.

من المهم أيضًا أن تكون على دراية بأن بعض المصابين بقصور الدرقية قد يكونوا مصابين أيضًا بأمراض أخرى في المناعة الذاتية، مثل التهاب المفاصل الروماتويدي. لذا تواصل مع الطبيب إذا لم يتحسن ألم المفاصل والتيبّس والتورم بعد تلقي الجرعة المناسبة من دواء الغدة الدرقية. فقد تكون هناك أسباب أخرى محتملة للألم يجب الكشف عنها.
