Biographical summary
Nelson Onyango M.D., is a board-certified physician with qualifications in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics with expertise in Hospital Medicine and Pediatrics. He is also an Instructor in Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. Onyango attended medical school at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. He completed his residency in combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (Med-Peds) at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center and the Penn State Children's Hospital where he was the Outstanding Graduating Resident, Class of 2020. He has worked at the Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and the Nationwide Children's Hospital. He was also an instructor in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Onyango's clinical practice focuses on inpatient (hospital) medicine and holistic care of the admitted patient and in their transition from the hospital to the medical home (outpatient setting), medical education at the bedside and patient communication, end-of-life care and palliative medicine, and advanced clinical exam findings. His research focuses on general gastroenterology, medical education, patient communication and global health.
