  • تحسين الرعاية للنساء المعرضات لمخاطر عالية للإصابة بسرطان الثدي. توصّل علماء مايو كلينك إلى أن استئصال الثدي مع الحفاظ على الحلمة آمن للنساء اللاتي لديهن طفرات في جين BRCA ويخضعن لاستئصال الثدي الوقائي.
  • الحد من خطر الإصابة بمضاعفات استئصال سرطان الثدي. يسعى الباحثون إلى التعرّف على الحالات التي تواجه خطر الإصابة بوذمة لمفية بعد الخضوع لجراحة استئصال العُقَد اللمفية، والتوصّل إلى طرق للحد من هذا الخطر عن طريق أساليب جراحية مبتكرة وعلاجات مساعدة جديدة.
  • تخفيف الألم بعد استئصال الثدي. تعمل أساليب السيطرة على الألم قبل استئصال الثدي وأثناء العملية وبعدها على الحد من الاعتماد على تناول أدوية تخفيف الألم أثناء فترة التعافي. ومن شأن هذه الابتكارات أن تجعل الإجراءات الجراحية التي غالبًا ما تسبب ألم بعد العملية، مثل استئصال الثدي المزدوج واستئصال الثدي مع الاستبناء الفوري، أكثر راحة.
