Dr. Wigle received his undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Waterloo, and MSc and PhD degrees in Cell Biology at Queens University in Kingston, Canada. He completed his MD degree, General Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery training at the University of Toronto. Dr. Wigle has been on staff as a consulting thoracic surgeon at Mayo Clinic Rochester since 2006. He is a full Professor in the Department of Surgery and recently served as Division Chair for Thoracic Surgery from 2014-2023.

His research efforts focus on the cell and molecular biology of thoracic malignancy and aerodigestive regenerative medicine and translating this information into clinical trials for evaluating novel treatment approaches.
