Adult Volunteers

Mayo Clinic volunteers in emergency department

Adult volunteers must be age 18 or older and able to commit to a regularly scheduled shift. Volunteers commit to a minimum of six months of active service each year.

Minnesota law requires facilities licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) to complete applicant background studies on all individuals who have direct patient contact. This two-step process includes verification of identity, submission of a photograph and fingerprints. In addition, Mayo Clinic also runs a second background check through Certiphi Screening, Inc.

To apply, complete the online application. All applicants are required to be fluent in the English language and must have a valid email address.

Mayo Clinic Volunteer Programs will contact you after your application is reviewed. If selected, a placement discussion will be scheduled for you to meet with a Volunteer Manager.

Additional requirements before volunteering include:

  • Completing an immunization review
  • Attending new volunteer orientation
  • Completing the volunteer training program
