Biographical summary
Shawn Oxentenko, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He specializes in musculoskeletal medicine, general rehabilitation, and ultrasound-guided injections. Dr. Oxentenko was
integral in developing the outpatient ultrasound-guided injection practice in the Rochester, Minnesota PM&R location. Dr. Oxentenko shares his clinical time between the Rochester, Minnesota and the Mankato, Minnesota locations. His subspecialties include:
- Spine pain management
- Therapeutic intra-joint and soft tissue injections
- Regenerative medicine
In addition to his clinical time, Dr. Oxentenko is a participant of the Ask Medical Expert Committee and the Musculoskeletal/Rheumatic Diseases Task Force. He provided valuable leadership as Chair of the PM&R Clinical Practice by deriving metrics to track productivity, leading efforts to reduce expenditures, and increasing performance in the department. To decrease patient wait times, Dr. Oxentenko worked with the department of Gastroenterology to organize and develop an alternative space for patients with chronic abdominal wall pain to receive specialized ultrasound-guided trigger point injections.
Dr. Oxentenko is a valuable member of the PM&R Resident and Fellowship program. As a previous resident himself, he is able to provide essential background in his one-on-one teachings, daily discussions, and at-the-bedside education sessions with Residents and Fellows. He routinely teaches at the Mayo Medical School on topics such as Neck and Back Pain, Human Anatomy, and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound.
