Biographical summary
Timothy D. Lyon, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Urology and the Urology Residency Program Director at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He received his medical degree from the University of
Kansas and was a resident in Urology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He subsequently completed a 2-year fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he developed subspecialty expertise in the multidisciplinary management of complex urologic cancers. Dr. Lyon's clinical interests include:
- Robotic and open radical cystectomy for bladder cancer
- Orthotopic neobladder reconstruction
- Noninvasive bladder cancer, including intravesical therapy and blue light cystoscopy
- Surgical management of advanced renal cell carcinoma
- Nephron-sparing partial nephrectomy
- Retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for testicular cancer
- Nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Lyon is active in medical education and research, publishing regularly in the peer-reviewed scientific literature and providing mentorship to trainees. He is an active clinical investigator and is currently recruiting for multiple clinical trials investigating novel cancer therapies through the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. Dr. Lyon is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
