Biographical summary
Dr. Bradford S. Hoppe is a radiation oncologist and Professor of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where he serves as Medical Director of Particle Therapy. He specializes in advanced radiation therapy for pediatric and adult patients with lymphoma, lung cancer, thymic cancer and other thoracic malignancies. His expertise includes proton therapy, carbon ion (heavy ion) radiation, image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), with a focus on delivering highly targeted treatment while minimizing radiation exposure to healthy tissues.
As an international expert in particle therapy, Dr. Hoppe is advancing the use of proton and heavy ion radiation to improve cancer outcomes and reduce treatment-related side effects. He has a particular interest in integrating precision radiotherapy with immunotherapy and other systemic cancer treatments to provide personalized care for patients with complex cancers.
Dr. Hoppe collaborates closely with medical oncologists, surgeons, radiologists and other specialists through Mayo Clinic's multidisciplinary tumor boards to develop individualized treatment plans for each patient. His research focuses on improving quality of life, reducing radiation-related toxicity and expanding access to innovative therapies through clinical trials.
In addition to caring for patients, he is committed to educating the next generation of radiation oncologists and is recognized internationally for his leadership in particle therapy through lectures, publications and his role as an American Board of Radiology examiner.
"My goal is to provide every patient with the most advanced, personalized treatment available," says Dr. Hoppe. "By combining precision radiation therapy with the latest advances in systemic therapies, including immunotherapy, we can tailor treatment to each patient's cancer while maximizing effectiveness and minimizing side effects."
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hoppe enjoys traveling, cheering on the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and spending time with his family.
