En una cirugía mínimamente invasiva, los médicos aplican una gran variedad de técnicas para realizar operaciones que produzcan menos daños en el cuerpo que una cirugía abierta. En general, la cirugía mínimamente invasiva está relacionada con menos dolor, una estadía más corta en el hospital y menos complicaciones.

La laparoscopía (una cirugía que se realiza a través de una o más incisiones pequeñas con tubos pequeños, y cámaras e instrumentos quirúrgicos diminutos) fue uno de los primeros tipos de cirugía mínimamente invasiva.
