Biographical summary
Scott C. Lester, M.D., is a board-certified radiation oncologist at Mayo Clinic specializing in the treatment of head and neck cancers, lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, skin cancers, and other complex malignancies using advanced radiation techniques including proton therapy and reirradiation. He leads multiple clinical trials developing novel treatments — including hyperthermia, nanoparticle-based therapies, and advanced radiation techniques — aimed at improving cancer control while preserving quality of life and reducing side effects. He serves as Co-director of the Oral Cavity Cancer Clinic, Director of Superficial Radiotherapy, and is a member of the Executive Radiation Oncology and Executive Lymphoid Malignancies Committees. Dr. Lester's role as Physician Chair of the Treatment Planning Steering Committee reflects his passion for the technical aspects of radiation oncology and his belief that exceptional outcomes begin with meticulous treatment planning tailored to each patient's unique disease and anatomy. He regularly cares for patients with rare, recurrent, or previously irradiated cancers referred from across the world. He places a strong emphasis on patient wellness through multidisciplinary efforts that support mental health, physical fitness, and survivorship during and after cancer treatment. Dr. Lester is known for combining innovative cancer treatments with compassionate, patient-centered care and has been recognized by patients with a "Most Likely to Recommend" award.
