Research

Mayo Clinic researchers study diagnostic tests and treatment options for aortic valve disease. Read more about research in the Cardiovascular Research Center.

Areas of research have included:

  • Sutureless valves for aortic valve disease treatment.
  • Valve-sparing aortic root replacement.
  • Imaging techniques to diagnose and monitor valve disease. This includes echocardiography, multidetector computerized tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.
  • Minimally invasive procedures to treat aortic valve disease, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement, also called TAVR.
  • How well people do after TAVR compared with those who have open-heart surgery.
  • 3D printing to create models of the heart and valves that surgeons may study to prepare for doing heart valve surgery.
