Dr. Basar Sareyyupoglu is a Senior Associate Consultant in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mayo Clinic Florida. He joined the Florida Mayo staff in 2019. He previously worked as a cardiothoracic surgery fellow and the Chief Resident in the Cardiac Surgery Department at Mayo Clinic Rochester from 2006 to 2009. Before joining Mayo Clinic Florida, Dr. Sareyyupoglu was the Surgical Director of Heart and Thoracic Transplantation at Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his medical degree from Ankara University in Ankara, Turkey in 2000 and completed his residency at Kosuyolu Heart and Research Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey in 2006. He worked as an instructor in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for two years with intense focus on heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support devices implantation and cardiopulmonary shock management.

Dr. Sareyyupoglu has been in cardiothoracic surgery practice for 22 years and has experience in:

He received a Blue Ribbon for Adult Top Cardiac Poster at the 45th Annual Meeting for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons in 2009 and selected presentation as Clinical Case Dilemmas at the 30th Annual Meeting for the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation in 2010. He received the Alligator Tank 2019 Second Place Innovation Pitch award for his pitch "A Ventricular Assist Device Solution to Improve Outcomes "Mayo Globe" and the winner at the 2nd quarter "I'm In" awards. His innovation was selected in the top 10 out of over 200 innovations from Mayo Clinic employees in 2020.
