The following organizations recognize Mayo Clinic for high levels of quality and safety:
- U.S. News Best Hospitals Honor Roll
U.S. News & World Report ranked Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. among the best hospitals in the nation in their 2015-2016 rankings. Mayo Clinic has ranked at or near the top of "Honor Roll" hospitals through the history of U.S. News and World Report's best-hospital rankings. Mayo Clinic has more number one rankings than any other hospital in the nation with No. 1 rankings in eight specialties: diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, pulmonology and urology. Mayo is ranked No. 2 in three additional specialties — cardiology and heart surgery, ear, nose & throat, and orthopedics and No. 3 in cancer. All specialties at Mayo Clinic work together to provide whole-person care for each patient, every day.
U.S. News' Best Hospitals for Common Care evaluated how well more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide performed on five routine individual procedures and conditions:
- Heart bypass surgery
- Hip replacement
- Knee replacement
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Heart failure
While only about 10 percent of the hospitals were rated as high performers in any category, Mayo hospitals in Arizona; Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Florida; and Rochester earned the top-tier High Performing distinction in the latest ratings by U.S. News & World Report. When compared to more than 800 other High Performing medical institutions Mayo Clinic hospitals in Arizona and Rochester were ranked in the top 50 in all five categories assessed. Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire rated High Performing in heart failure, and Mayo Clinic in Florida earned a High Performing rating in hip replacement.
- U.S. News Best Children's Hospitals
Mayo Clinic Children's Center is rated in all US News & World Report pediatric specialty categories and is the only children’s hospital in the five-state region to rank in all 10 specialties.
- UHC Quality Leadership Award
Rochester, Minn., hospitals received the 2015 Quality Leadership Award, given to 10 academic medical centers that demonstrate excellence in delivering high-quality care as measured by the UHC Quality and Accountability Study.
- Nursing Magnet status
Mayo Clinic is awarded Magnet recognition for its Rochester, Minn., nursing program. The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. Consumers rely on Magnet designation as the ultimate credential for high-quality nursing.

Mayo Clinic is recognized by Consumer Reports' hospital ratings.
- The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program
Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus achieved exemplary outcomes for surgical patient care. The recognition program commends a select group of hospitals for achieving exemplary outcome performances related to patient management in two or more of five clinical areas.
Mayo Clinic recognized as a DiversityInc Top Hospital and Health System
Mayo Clinic has earned this designation annually since 2011. Mayo was ranked using an objective analysis of 183 factors, based on data from a 300-question survey.
The four areas of measurement are talent pipeline, equitable talent development, CEO/leadership commitment and supplier diversity.
