Biographical summary
Travis E. Grotz, M.D., is a surgical oncologist who specializes in treating cancers of the gastrointestinal (GI) system and soft tissues. He has advanced training in minimally invasive cancer surgery, including robotic and laparoscopic procedures, and also performs complex surgeries for more advanced cancers.
Dr. Grotz trained at both Mayo Clinic and MD Anderson Cancer Center—two of the top cancer centers in the country. At Mayo Clinic, he leads and participates in several clinical trials, including innovative studies focused on delivering treatments directly into the abdominal cavity (intraperitoneal therapy).
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Grotz is actively involved in cancer research and education. He serves on editorial boards for respected medical journals, including the Annals of Surgical Oncology, and contributes as a guest editor to several others. He also helps shape national treatment guidelines for peritoneal mesothelioma as a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) panel. Dr. Grotz supports cancer patients beyond the hospital by serving as a scientific advisor for non-profit groups like the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation and Debbie’s Dream Foundation.
