تُصنَّف السرطانة القنوية اللابدة (DCIS) بأنها سرطان ثدي من المرحلة 0. والمرحلة هي طريقة لوصف حجم السرطان ومدى انتشاره. تُصنّف مراحل سرطان الثدي من المرحلة 0 إلى المرحلة 4، حيث يدل الرقم الأدنى على أن السرطان في مرحلة أقل تفاقمًا ومن المحتمل علاجه والشفاء منه بدرجة كبيرة. ومع نمو السرطان داخل نسيج الثدي وتفاقمه أكثر، فإنه ينتقل إلى مرحلة أعلى.

  • المرحلة 0. عندما تحدث السرطانة القنوية اللابدة بمفردها، فإنها تُصنَّف سرطانًا في الثدي من المرحلة 0. وهذا يعني أن الخلايا السرطانية موجودة داخل قناة الحليب، من دون أي علامات على انتشارها إلى الأنسجة المجاورة.
  • المرحلة 0 و 1 و 3 و 4. تُستخدم المراحل من 1 إلى 4 لتحديد مرحلة سرطان الثدي الغزوي. وإذا وُجدت منطقة من السرطانة القنوية اللابدة إلى جانب سرطان غزوي، فتُصنَّف الحالة على أنها سرطان غزوي. ويشمل ذلك أيضًا المناطق الصغيرة جدًا من السرطان الغزوي، التي تُعرف بالغزو الدقيق أو المكروي.

في بعض الأحيان، تشير الاختبارات إلى أن نوع السرطان هو سرطانة قنوية لابدة، لكن تكشف الجراحة عن وجود سرطان الثدي الغزوي. لذلك، قد لا يتسنى تحديد مرحلة السرطان إلا بعد الجراحة.
