Biographical summary
Dr. Yount is a cardiac surgeon in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Jacksonville, Florida. Prior to joining the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Yount was an Associate Professor at the University of Virginia, where he previously held numerous leadership positions, including Director of the Structural Heart & Valve Center and Director of the Aortic Center. His subspecialty focus includes:
- Minimally invasive mitral valve repair
- Traditional open-heart and transcatheter aortic and mitral valve surgery
- Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
- Ascending aorta and aortic arch repair
- Septal myectomy
Dr. Yount is passionate about working with a multidisciplinary heart team to provide patients with options for minimally invasive, transcatheter, and traditional open-heart surgery. Dr. Yount has been principal investigator for a NIH grant to support large-scale clinical trial research and has served on the steering committee for the Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network. Dr. Yount is board-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), which recognized his research with its President’s Award.
He is originally from Augusta, Georgia, and graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth, where he was captain of the golf team and an avid skier.
