Research

Experts at Mayo Clinic take part in research to find the causes of pediatric neurological disorders, including spina bifida. They also conduct research to help develop new and improved treatments. This includes studies on the development of children with spina bifida who had surgery before they were born compared with those who had surgery after birth.

Experts who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, including pediatric rehabilitation, focus their research on making it possible for people with disabilities to take part in daily activities. Studies are ongoing to investigate a means of measuring kicking and leg movement in infants with spina bifida to help design novel interventions.
