close videoMy name is William Hogan. I'm one of the hematologists here at Mayo Clinic. I predominately treat patients that have blood disorders, such as leukemias, and I also am head of the bone marrow transplant at Mayo. When patients come to see me, usually they have a pretty serious or oftentimes very serious illness that can be life-threatening. They have questions about the diagnosis. What does this mean for me? How is this going to change my life? And I try to provide them with the answers to those questions and give them hope that there are treatment options that we can consider that can hopefully improve their situation and, many times, lead to a long-term cure. I think my personal philosophy is one, to try and get to know the person. Two is try and see what their goals are. Three is try and bring the best treatments that we have available to bear on that. And four is to make sure that it's part of the partnership with family, the patient, and with the medical team. And so we try and do that for every patient every time.show transcriptDepartmentsTransplant CenterBone Marrow Transplant ProgramLocationRochester, MinnesotaLanguagesEnglishExisting patientsSend a secure message via patient portalRefer a patient Watch my video Get to know me and my work at Mayo Clinic Share Facebook Twitter Print details Email Conditions treatedAcute leukemiaMyeloproliferative disorders Procedures performedAllogeneic stem cell transplantAutologous stem cell transplantBone marrow transplant InterestsAcute leukemiaMyeloproliferative disordersBlood and marrow transplantationReduced intensity conditioning Mayo Clinic locations Rochester, Minnesota Driving directions More info Billing & insurance Accessibility services Education2003Research Fellowship - Transplantation Biology (Rainer Storb Lab)Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center2001Fellow - Hematology/OncologyMayo Clinic in Rochester1998Diploma - MRCPIRoyal College of Physicians of Ireland1997Resident - Internal MedicineMayo Clinic in Rochester1995Senior House Officer - Internal MedicineMater Misericordiae Hospital, Dublin, Ireland1993Internship - Internal Medicine/SurgerySt. James Hospital, Dublin, Ireland1992MB,BCh,BAO,BAUniversity of Dublin, Trinity College Activities and honorsCertifications2001Medical OncologyAmerican Board of Internal Medicine2000HematologyAmerican Board of Internal Medicine1998Internal MedicineRoyal College of Physicians of Ireland1997Internal MedicineAmerican Board of Internal MedicineAwards and honors2001Clinical Pharmacology of Anticancer DrugsBerlex Oncology Foundation2001Mayo Foundation ScholarshipMayo Foundation2001Cancer GeneticsBerlex Oncology Foundation1992Overall Honors in Clinical SciencesUniversity of Dublin, Trinity College1992David Gault Memorial PrizeUniversity of Dublin, Trinity College1992M.B.
