Katie M. Van Abel, M.D.

Kathryn M. Van Abel, M.D., is a board-certified otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where she serves as Professor of Otolaryngology, Chair for Research within the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, and a consultant in both Otolaryngology and Neurosurgery. Her clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of complex head and neck cancers, with particular expertise in HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer, parotid tumors and cancer, thyroid cancer, skin cancer, and robotic surgery. Dr. Van Abel is nationally and internationally recognized for her work in head and neck oncology, transoral robotic surgery, and innovative approaches that aim to maximize cancer control while preserving quality of life. She is actively involved in clinical research, resident education, and multidisciplinary cancer care, collaborating closely with specialists across Mayo Clinic to provide comprehensive, individualized treatment for each patient.
