Kelly M. Pennington, M.D.

Kelly M. Pennington, M.D., is a transplant pulmonologist and critical care specialist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Pennington evaluates patients with advanced lung disease before lung transplantation and provides post-transplant and long-term follow-up care. She works with multidisciplinary teams to assess transplant candidacy, manage complex pulmonary disease and support patients throughout the lung transplant process.

Her clinical practice includes the diagnosis and management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, hepatopulmonary syndrome, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and pulmonary hypertension.

Dr. Pennington completed fellowship training in Lung Transplant and Advanced Lung Disease at the University of Toronto and fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Mayo Clinic. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Pennington contributes to medical education and professional collaboration. She received the Mayo Fellows Association PCCM Teacher of the Year award in 2024 and has been recognized as a top 10% teacher by Mayo Clinic Internal Medicine. She also serves as co-chair of the American Thoracic Society Fungal Working Group and participates in the HOPE clinical trial consortium for lung transplantation in people with HIV.
