Pediatric units

Using a multispecialty team approach, Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital offers expert pediatric care in all its units, tailored to your child's needs.

General Pediatric Unit

Location: Francis Building, second and third floors (Fr 2B, Fr 3C)

Infants, children and teens usually are grouped according to their age. Patients are admitted to the General Pediatric Unit for a variety of reasons including illness, injury or surgery. The unit specializes in family-centered care. All rooms are private, with a private bathroom, a couch/bed for a family member, a TV, video-viewing equipment and a music system.

Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU)

Location: Mary Brigh Building, fifth floor (MB 5B)

Children who have heart surgery, heart transplantation or those in need of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy are cared for in the CSICU — an 11-bed ICU with private rooms.

A primary nurse is assigned to each pediatric patient on admission and a family-centered approach is used. Patient rooms have video-viewing equipment. Photos are taken throughout the hospital stay and photo albums are available to record your child's hospital experience.

Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Location: Mary Brigh Building, third floor (MB 3B)

Mayo's NICU specializes in family-centered care of premature and critically ill newborn infants. Families are welcome at the infant's bedside and will find many support spaces throughout the unit, such as family waiting areas and rooms, parent-sleep rooms and breast-feeding rooms.

When a baby is born at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus, and then transferred to the NICU, the baby's mother can watch the baby via the "Caring Connection" — a live, closed-circuit TV system installed in the mother's room. A videotaping service provides a similar link between mothers who are hospitalized at other hospitals and for families separated from their baby at our special care nurseries.

Mayo's NICU Follow-up Clinic ensures continuity of quality care after the baby's discharge from the NICU.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Location: Mary Brigh Building, third floor (MB 3G)

Mayo's PICU specializes in family-centered care of critically ill children. Families are welcome at the child's bedside and will find many support spaces throughout the unit, such as family waiting areas, parent-sleep rooms and breast-feeding rooms.

Pediatric Infusion Therapy Center (PITC)

Location: Mary Brigh Building, fifth floor (MB 5A)

Mayo's PITC is a pediatric outpatient facility that serves children who need intravenous (IV) or infusion therapy. This includes chemotherapy, blood transfusions and antibiotic therapy.

Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit

Location: Generose Building, floors 4 and 5.

Pediatric patients requiring multispecialty intensive rehabilitative care including physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapy due to significant injury or illness causing disability receive care here. The unit has specially designated pediatric rooms, gyms, equipment, and personnel to care for children and teenagers.

Pediatric Transplant Unit

Location: Mary Brigh Building, third floor (MB 3G)

Mayo's Pediatric Transplant Unit is a specially designated area of the PICU that cares for children who have had bone marrow, liver or kidney transplants. Families are welcome at the child's bedside and will find many support spaces throughout the unit, such as family waiting areas, parent-sleep rooms and breast-feeding rooms.

Pediatric Emergency Department

Location: Main level of St. Marys Hospital

Specially trained pediatric emergency medicine specialists, as well as pediatric medical specialists, pediatric surgeons, and child and adolescent psychiatrists, treat sick and injured children in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
