Generally, patients in the emergency department or a Mayo Clinic hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, may have visitors subject to current safety needs, which may fluctuate. Learn more about visitor updates.
At any time, patients or a family member may request an exception to this rule for a faith community visitor. Patients might make such a request if, for example, they wish a faith community visitor to conduct a ritual, ceremony or rite that can't be experienced virtually.
If the care team approves the request:
- The faith community visitor's name will be added to the patient's visitor list. Front door screeners are only authorized to admit a faith community visitor whose name appears on the patient’s visitor list.
- Patient visits from faith community members need to be pre-arranged. Drop-in visitors who aren't on a patient’s visitor list will not be granted hospital access.
- For safety reasons, visits to the Spiritual Care office need to be prescheduled.
