Research

Mayo Clinic researchers study diagnostic tests and treatment options for aortic valve disease. Read more about research in the Cardiovascular Research Center.

Areas of research have included:

  • Imaging techniques to diagnose and monitor valve disease, including echocardiography, multidetector computerized tomography (MDCT) and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cardiac MRI).
  • Minimally invasive procedures to treat aortic valve disease, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and other catheter procedures.
  • Outcomes of TAVR compared with those of open-heart surgery in people with different levels of surgical risk.
  • 3D printing of models of the heart and valves that surgeons may study to prepare to perform heart valve surgery.
