Dr. Tapias Vargas is a Thoracic Surgeon, with particular interest in thoracic oncology, minimally invasive surgery including robotic thoracic surgery, and airway surgery. His clinical focus includes:
- Expertise in management and robotic minimally invasive surgery in the treatment of early and locally advanced lung cancer
- Expertise in management and robotic minimally invasive surgery in the treatment of esophageal cancer
- Robotic assisted minimally invasive surgery in the management of mediastinal tumors, gastroesophageal reflux, hiatal hernias, achalasia, esophageal diverticula, hyperhidrosis and other diseases of the chest.

He has a particular interest in the application and results of minimally invasive surgery techniques, including robotic surgery in complex operations such as esophagectomies.
