Kannan Ramar, M.D., is a Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep Medicine physician, with specialty interest in critical care and sleep medicine. His clinical focus includes:

  • Expertise in management of sleep disorders, such as obstructive and central sleep apneas, including hypoventilation syndromes.
  • Complex coordination of critical care and management of critical illness in the ICU
  • Identifying techniques to quantify and communicate risks to patients

In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Ramar is active in research, administration, quality and safety, and education, providing mentorship to residents and fellows. He authors expert content and publishes in high-impact scientific journals.

Dr. Ramar serves as the Patient Safety and Mortality Officer for Mayo Clinic and as the Assistant Dean for Clinical Learning Environment Optimization at the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education (MCSGME). He is a Professor of Medicine in the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM), Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Dr. Ramar serves as the Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM).
