Wisit Cheungpasitporn, M.D.

Wisit Cheungpasitporn, M.D., FACP, FASN, FAST, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he also serves as MCASOM AI Content Lead and Course Director for the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. He specializes in acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, dialysis and home dialysis, hypertension, kidney stones, electrolyte disorders, and critical care nephrology. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Cheungpasitporn earned his medical degree with First Class Honors from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. He completed internal medicine residency at Bassett Medical Center in New York and both nephrology and kidney transplant fellowships at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He also holds a Postdoctoral Diploma in Clinical and Translational Science (CCaTS) from Mayo Clinic with advanced training in epidemiology, clinical research, and statistical analysis. He received the Donald C. Balfour Research Award for outstanding research by a clinically trained junior scientist. An internationally recognized researcher, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, editorials, and reviews spanning clinical nephrology, kidney transplantation, and the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning in kidney health. His honors include multiple Teacher of the Year awards.

In addition to clinical and research work, Dr. Cheungpasitporn is a nationally and internationally recognized speaker and educator on artificial intelligence in healthcare and an active mentor to medical students, residents, and fellows in the United States and abroad. He serves on national and international committees, including the American Society of Nephrology’s Steering Committee for the Partnership for Responsible AI in Kidney Health, and holds editorial roles with several leading medical journals.
