Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Rare

  1. Bloody, black, or tarry stools
  2. chest pain or tightness
  3. cough
  4. difficulty with swallowing
  5. dizziness
  6. excess air or gas in the stomach
  7. fast, slow, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  8. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  9. pain or discomfort in the chest, upper stomach, or throat
  10. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  11. skin rash, hives, or itching
  12. unusual tiredness or weakness
  13. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. chills
  3. coma
  4. confusion
  5. dark urine
  6. diarrhea
  7. drowsiness
  8. dry mouth
  9. headache
  10. high fever
  11. increased thirst
  12. joint or muscle pain
  13. light-colored stools
  14. loss of appetite
  15. mood or mental changes
  16. muscle cramps in the hands, arms, feet, legs, or face
  17. muscle spasms (tetany) or twitching
  18. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  19. nausea
  20. painful or difficult urination
  21. red irritated eyes
  22. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  23. seizures
  24. sore throat
  25. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  26. swollen glands
  27. trembling
  28. trouble breathing
  29. unexplained bleeding or bruising
  30. vomiting
  31. watery and severe diarrhea, which may also be bloody
  32. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement
  2. dry mouth
  3. passing gas

Rare

  1. Back pain
  2. change in taste
  3. changes in vision
  4. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  5. hearing loss
  6. hiccup

Incidence not known

  1. Hair loss or thinning of the hair
  2. swelling of the breasts or breast soreness in both females and males

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
