Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. bleeding gums
  4. blistering, peeling, or loosening of skin
  5. bloating
  6. blood in urine or stools
  7. blurred vision
  8. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  9. chest pain
  10. chills
  11. clay-colored stools
  12. cold sweats
  13. confusion
  14. constipation
  15. cough or hoarseness
  16. coughing up blood
  17. darkened urine
  18. diarrhea
  19. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position suddenly
  20. dry mouth
  21. fast heartbeat
  22. fatigue
  23. fever
  24. flushed, dry skin
  25. fruit-like breath odor
  26. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  27. headache
  28. increased hunger
  29. increased thirst
  30. increased urination
  31. indigestion
  32. itching
  33. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  34. loss of appetite
  35. lower back or side pain
  36. nausea
  37. pain in joints or muscles
  38. painful or difficult urination
  39. pains in stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  40. pinpoint red spots on skin
  41. red irritated eyes
  42. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  43. redness, soreness or itching skin
  44. shortness of breath
  45. skin rash
  46. sore throat
  47. sores, ulcers, or white spots on lips or in mouth
  48. sores, welting, or blisters
  49. sugar in the urine
  50. sweating
  51. swelling of feet or lower legs
  52. swollen glands
  53. tightness in chest
  54. troubled breathing
  55. unpleasant breath odor
  56. unusual bleeding or bruising
  57. unusual tiredness or weakness
  58. unusual weight loss
  59. vomiting
  60. vomiting of blood
  61. weight loss
  62. wheezing
  63. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Cramping
  2. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  3. difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  4. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  5. hives
  6. inability to have or keep an erection
  7. increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight
  8. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  9. muscle spasm
  10. redness or other discoloration of skin
  11. restlessness
  12. sensation of spinning
  13. severe sunburn
  14. weakness
