Research

Mayo Clinic researchers study craniosynostosis and other neurological conditions. Much progress has been made in understanding the genetic causes of syndromic craniosynostosis. But the cause of most nonsyndromic craniosynostosis still is not known.

Other research at Mayo Clinic involves the use of MRI scans rather than CT scans for diagnosis and treatment of craniosynostosis. Other research also involves ways to lower the need for blood transfusion during surgery. Researchers also are developing artificial intelligence methods of detecting craniosynostosis.
