Clinical trials Below are current clinical trials.104 studies in Neurology (open studies only). Filter this list of studies by location, status and more. A Study to Evaluate Sex Differences in Multiple Sclerosis Spectrum of Demyelinating Disorders Rochester, Minn. The purposes of this study are to explore the association between female sex, reproductive history and clinical phenotypic variability in multiple sclerosis (MS), to explore the association between female sex, reproductive history and radiologic phenotypic variability in MS, and to explore the association between female sex, genetic and environmental interactions in MS. Human Nucleus Accumbens and Associated Brain Networks Using 7T MR Imaging Rochester, Minn. The objective of this study is to utilize ultra-high-field MR neuroimaging to elucidate the structural and functional anatomy of the human nucleus accumbens and associated brain structures in healthy volunteers and in subjects with substance use disorder. A Study of Pyridostigmine in Postural Tachycardia Syndrome Rochester, Minn. This is a 3-day study comparing pyridostigmine versus placebo in the treatment of postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS). The researchers expect pyridostigmine to improve tachycardia and stabilize blood pressure. Synucleinopathies Rochester, Minn. The goals of the study are to prospectively evaluate clinical and laboratory biomarkers of multiple system atrophy and Parkinson’s disease at early clinical disease, at a premotor stage (PAF), and even at a prodromal stage (RBD). A Study of Factors That Predispose, Promote, and Perpetuate Post-Traumatic Dizziness Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether recent, groundbreaking discoveries about key pathophysiologic processes that drive chronic dizziness in patients without traumatic brain injury (TBI9,10) are applicable to patients with post-mTBI vestibular disability. We expect the results of this project to have practical clinical and research applications, providing novel data for two future steps: A Molecular Anatomic Imaging Analysis Of Tau In Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Rochester, Minn. This study is designed to learn more about overall tau burden in the brain of patients with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Optimizing Rehabilitation Effect With Electrical Stimulation Therapy Rehab Jacksonville, Fla., Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the dentate nucleus area for improving functional status in patients with moderate to severe residual upper-extremity motor impairment due to stroke. Molecular And Structural Imaging In Alzheimer's Disease: A Longitudinal Study Rochester, Minn. This is a neuroimaging study designed to learn more about amyloid and tau burden in the brain of patients with typical and atypical Alzheimer's Disease and how burden may change over a one year period. Study Of Neurophysiologically Based Brain State Tracking And Modulation In Focal Epilepsy Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to track seizure occurrence, seizure probability, behavioral state, cognition, and mood using an implantable brain sensing and stimulation device (Medtronic RC+S Summit) coupled to an external, handheld, patient assistant device (PAD) with capability for patient interaction (patient data input). The system (RC+S & PAD) provides intracranial EEG (iEEG) sensing, electrical brain stimulation, and machine learning algorithms running on the RC+S and PAD that will be coupled with electrical brain stimulation (EBS) to prevent seizures and improve quality of life in patients with epilepsy A Study to Develop and Assess the Role of Artificial Intelligence in MR Fingerprinting of the Brain Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) system than can process MR images acquired using conventional acquisition schemes (spin echo, gradient echo, etc) and contrasts (T1, T2, T2*, PD) to identify the MR fingerprint of the tissue under interrogation. The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
