I grew up in New York City and after serving in the US Air Force, received my medical and surgical training in Boston, Massachusetts. I went to do for additional training and heart and lung transplant surgery, mechanical circulatory support. I practice cardiac surgery with a particular interest in heart and lung failure, as well as thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, coronary artery disease. What motivates me in this field is the opportunity to help patients who are critically ill. Maybe even running out of hope. I come to the Mayo Clinic every day for the opportunity to provide a major intervention, such as a mechanical support device, heart or lung transplant, the pulmonary thermo endarterectomy, well, coronary bypass that changes your course. And with the help of colleagues will cover you suddenly get home to spend time with those you love. There are no words strong enough for that kind of satisfaction. I feel incredibly fortunate to get to practice at the Mayo Clinic. I'm surrounded by experts in every field of medicine and surgery. We're all passionate about bringing superior care to our patients. This institution provides immense support so that the clinician can focus first on the patient's needs. The logistics are managed almost seamlessly. Environment here makes it very challenging job, remarkably easier for both patients and doctors. Profession stimulates deep meaningful relationships with our patients. Those who love them, and team members across specialties and professions, creating a rich depth to our practice.
