Biographical summary
Moustafa El Khatib, M.B.B.Ch., F.A.C.S., is a general surgeon with a comprehensive background specializing in surgical critical care, trauma, and acute care general surgery. He earned his medical degree from Kasr El-Eini Medical School, Cairo University. His surgical training includes a clinical residency in General Surgery at the University of Alexandria, Faculty of Medicine in Egypt followed by a residency in General Surgery at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester, Minnesota. He also completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He holds an academic rank of Assistant Professor of Surgery.
Dr. El Khatib is board certified by the American Board of Surgery since 2021. He served as an attending surgeon at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa. During this tenure, he took on significant leadership
roles, acting as chair of the Department of Surgery and Medical Director of Trauma at the same institution.
Dr. El Khatib is also an innovator and prolific contributor to medical literature. Topics ranging from novel abdominal closure methods and surgical outcomes to beta-cell therapies for diabetes and simulation in
surgical education.
