Haraldur Bjarnason, M.D.

Dr. Bjarnason is Professor of Radiology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He is an active member of the Vascular & Interventional Division and the director of the Gonda Vascular Center, Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota. His main clinical interests include vascular disease in general with special interest in venous disease, (large vein endovascular reconstruction, thrombolysis and management of venous insufficiency) as well as peripheral arterial disease. As a secondary interest is healthcare delivery, public health and healthcare administration.

He completed his medical doctorate at the University of Iceland and internship in Iceland with additional training in internal medicine for one year. Following that he did residence training in Radiology with inclusion of Internal Medicine and Surgery at various medical centers in Norway along with a Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship at University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics from 1990 to 1992. He had a position as an assistant and later associate professor at the University of Minnesota from 1992 to 2000.

He has certifications in Federation Licensing Examination and Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates and the American Board of Radiology. He also holds a certificate of additional qualification in Interventional Radiology. He has deep interest in teaching and research and has authored / co-authored many articles (90 pear review) and book chapters. He is currently the director of the Gonda Vascular Center, Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN. The Gonda Vascular Center is an integrated, multidisciplinary, center for care of patients with vascular disease.
