Sandra M. Herrmann, M.D.

Sandra M. Herrmann, M.D., is a Professor of Medicine and Consultant in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She completed medical school at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and postgraduate training in internal medicine and nephrology in Brazil before additional residency and fellowship training at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Herrmann is board certified in nephrology and specializes in onco-nephrology, caring for people with cancer who develop kidney complications during their disease or treatment. Her expertise includes monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance, paraneoplastic glomerulonephritis, kidney toxicities related to cancer therapies, complications from immunotherapies, CAR T-cell therapy, targeted cancer treatments, hypertension, and kidney disease. Dr. Herrmann's research focuses on improving diagnosis and management of cancer-related kidney disorders and understanding mechanisms of kidney injury associated with high blood pressure. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, she works to protect kidney health while helping patients receive treatment for their underlying disease. She is a member of the American and International Societies of Nephrology and a founding member of the American Society of Onco-nephrology.
