Taxiarchis Kourelis, M.D., is an associate professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic, specializing in dysproteinemias multiple myeloma with focused expertise in amyloidosis. His clinical practice and research encompass rare dysproteinemias including amyloidosis, POEMS syndrome, VEXAS syndrome, sporadic late onset nemaline myopathy with MGUS, and monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance.

Dr. Kourelis' translational research program aims to identify mechanisms of tissue damage in amyloidosis and improve patient outcomes in this disease. His work utilizes systems biology approaches to understand organ toxicity, having identified complement deposition as a key driver of tissue damage in amyloidosis. He is collaborating with investigators to develop renal organoid models for AL amyloidosis and leads comprehensive studies of the immune microenvironment in dysproteinemias.

Dr. Kourelis has received funding from the NIH Paul Calabresi Program, Mayo Myeloma SPORE, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, as well as Foundation and industry partners. He has served as faculty for the ASH Clinical Research Training Institute and has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals including leading journals in the field (Blood, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Kidney International).
