Biographical summary
Dr. Mohamed Kazamel is a neurologist at Mayo Clinic specializing in autonomic and neuromuscular disorders. He obtained his medical degree from the Mansoura Medical School in Egypt followed by Neurology residency at Mansoura University Hospitals. He then completed Neurology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Medical Center. After completing a Neuromuscular Medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN he returned to join the University of Alabama faculty in 2015. There, he founded and directed the UAB Comprehensive Autonomic Testing Laboratory and co-directed the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Multidisciplinary Clinic. He then joined the Neuromuscular Division at the Department of Neurology in Mayo Clinic, AZ in 2025 where he is currently seeing patients with autonomic/neuromuscular disorders, interpreting autonomic studies, and performing electromyography. He is board certified in Neurology, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Clinical Neuromuscular Pathology, and Autonomic Disorders.
Dr. Kazamel’s clinical focus is peripheral autonomic disorders like autonomic neuropathies and central autonomic disorders like multiple system atrophy (MSA). His research interest is focused on the autonomic neuropathies seen in autoimmune disorders, DM, amyloidosis, and acute hepatic porphyrias. Another area of research interest is ALS epidemiology and validation of fluid and tissue biomarkers used to track ALS progression.
