Biographical summary
Ritchie Delara, M.D., is dual fellowship-trained in gynecologic oncology and complex benign gynecologic surgery. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) with a focused-practice designation in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS). She is a Fellow of American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). She attended medical school at the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii, completed residency at Cleveland Clinic Akron General in Akron, Ohio, and completed MIGS fellowship training at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. During her fellowship, she published over fifteen manuscripts including her thesis, "Shared decision-making in opioid prescribing for minimally invasive hysterectomy: A prospective randomized controlled trial." She received several awards including the Jerome J. Hoffman Award presented by the AAGL Foundation in 2020.
Dr. Delara then went into academia as an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado where her practice focused on minimally invasive surgery for complex benign gynecologic conditions and advanced endometriosis. Subsequently, she completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Atrium Health, Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. During her fellowship, she earned several awards including the Wake Forest Young Investigator Award for her research in targeted therapeutics for endometrial cancer.
Dr. Delara returned to the Department of Medical and Surgical Gynecology at Mayo Clinic Arizona as an Assistant Professor and Senior Associate Consultant in Gynecologic Surgical Oncology. Dr. Delara's clinical practice focuses on the treatment of patients with premalignant and malignant conditions of the female genital tract. She has an interest in advanced gynecologic cancers requiring radical surgical therapies such as cytoreduction, pelvic exenteration, hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), and intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT). She also has an interest in fertility-sparing procedures such as trachelectomy, and ovarian transposition.
