Dr. Richard Daly is a Professor of Surgery with the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and a Consultant in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Daly completed his residencies in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, followed by a fellowship in London under the direction of Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub focused on heart and lung transplantation, with exposure to all aspects of adult and pediatric heart surgery. Dr. Daly has been a member of the Mayo Clinic staff since 1992. He served as Surgical Director of Heart Transplantation for 16 years, Lung Transplantation for 10 years and remains Surgical Director for Pediatric Heart Transplantation (now for 20 years). He is immediate past Chair and is ex officio member of the OPTN Heart Committee which develops the U.S. national policies for organ allocation; he also serves on the OPTN Multi-Organ Transplant Workforce. Dr. Daly has been involved in robot assisted cardiac surgery for 17 years.  He received a Translational Research Award for development of a minimally invasive, off-pump approach to mitral valve repair. He is a recipient of the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Clinician Award.
