Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Chills
  2. cold sweats
  3. confusion
  4. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  5. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness

Less common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blurred vision
  3. changes in patterns and rhythms of speech
  4. chest pain
  5. cough
  6. drooling
  7. fever, muscle aches, or sore throat
  8. inability to move the eyes
  9. inability to sit still
  10. increased blinking or spasms of the eyelid
  11. lip smacking or puckering
  12. loss of balance control
  13. mask-like face
  14. need to keep moving
  15. painful or difficult urination
  16. puffing of the cheeks
  17. rapid or worm-like movements of the tongue
  18. restlessness
  19. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  20. shuffling walk
  21. slowed movements
  22. slurred speech
  23. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  24. sticking out of the tongue
  25. stiffness of the arms or legs
  26. sweating
  27. swelling of the face, arms, hands, feet, or lower legs
  28. swollen glands
  29. trembling and shaking of the hands and fingers
  30. trouble with breathing, speaking, or swallowing
  31. uncontrolled chewing movements
  32. uncontrolled movements of the arms and legs
  33. uncontrolled twisting movements of the neck, trunk, arms, or legs
  34. unusual bleeding or bruising
  35. unusual facial expressions
  36. unusual tiredness or weakness


  1. Dry, puffy skin
  2. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
  3. loss of appetite
  4. menstrual changes
  5. tiredness
  6. unusual secretion of milk (in females)
  7. weight gain

Incidence not known

  1. Aching or discomfort in the lower legs or sensation of crawling in the legs
  2. painful or prolonged erection of the penis
  3. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  4. skin rash, hives, or itching
  5. tightness in the chest
  6. tingling of the hands or feet
  7. unusual weight gain or loss

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Constipation
  2. headache

Less common

  1. Abnormal vision
  2. acid or sour stomach
  3. belching
  4. decreased appetite
  5. decreased strength and energy
  6. headache
  7. heartburn
  8. increased appetite
  9. increased muscle tone
  10. increased sweating
  11. increased weight
  12. indigestion
  13. sneezing
  14. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  15. stuffy or runny nose
