Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

  1. Agitation
  2. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  3. bloody or cloudy urine
  4. blue lips and fingernails
  5. blurred vision
  6. bulging soft spot on the head of an infant
  7. change in the ability to see colors, especially blue or yellow
  8. change in the amount or frequency of urine
  9. changes in skin color
  10. chest pain
  11. chills
  12. cloudy urine
  13. confusion
  14. cough
  15. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  16. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  17. decreased urination
  18. depression
  19. difficult or labored breathing
  20. difficult, fast, or noisy breathing
  21. difficulty swallowing
  22. dilated neck veins
  23. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  24. drowsiness
  25. dry mouth
  26. extreme tiredness or weakness
  27. fainting
  28. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  29. fever
  30. headache
  31. high blood pressure
  32. hives, itching, skin rash
  33. hostility
  34. increase in heart rate
  35. increased sweating
  36. increased thirst
  37. irregular breathing
  38. irritability
  39. lightheadedness
  40. loss of appetite
  41. loss of consciousness
  42. mood changes
  43. muscle pain, cramps, tremors, or twitching
  44. nausea
  45. nervousness
  46. not able to pass urine
  47. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips pain
  48. pain in lower back or side
  49. pain, redness, or pale skin at the injection site
  50. pale skin
  51. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  52. rapid weight gain
  53. rapid, deep breathing
  54. restlessness
  55. seizures
  56. severe sleepiness
  57. stomach cramps or pain
  58. sunken eyes
  59. tightness in the chest
  60. trouble sleeping
  61. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness
  62. unusual weight gain or loss
  63. vomiting
  64. weakness or heaviness of the legs
  65. wrinkled skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Bone or muscle stiffness
  2. difficulty in moving
  3. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  4. joint pain or swelling
  5. lack or loss of strength
  6. swelling or itching at the injection site

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
