Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blurred vision or double vision
  2. continuous back-and-forth eye movements

Less common

  1. Actions that are out of control
  2. behavioral changes (especially in children)
  3. confusion, agitation, or hostility (especially in the elderly)
  4. diarrhea (severe)
  5. discouragement
  6. drooling
  7. fear
  8. feeling of unreality
  9. feeling sad or empty
  10. headache (continuing)
  11. increase in seizures
  12. irritability
  13. lack of appetite
  14. loss of balance control
  15. loss of interest or pleasure
  16. muscle trembling, jerking, or stiffness
  17. nausea and vomiting (severe)
  18. other problems with muscle control or coordination
  19. sense of detachment from self or body
  20. shakiness and unsteady walk
  21. shuffling walk
  22. stiffness of the limb
  23. sudden, wide mood swings
  24. talking, feeling, and acting with excitement
  25. thoughts or attempts of killing oneself
  26. tiredness
  27. trouble concentrating
  28. trouble sleeping
  29. twisting movements of the body
  30. uncontrolled movements, especially of the face, neck, and back
  31. unusual drowsiness


  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blood in the urine or stools
  3. bone or joint pain
  4. chest pain
  5. cough or hoarseness
  6. darkening of the urine
  7. difficulty with speaking or slurred speech
  8. fainting
  9. frequent urination
  10. irregular, pounding, or unusually slow heartbeat
  11. lower back or side pain
  12. mental depression with restlessness and nervousness or other mood or mental changes
  13. muscle or stomach cramps
  14. nosebleeds or other unusual bleeding or bruising
  15. numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in the hands and feet
  16. pain, tenderness, swelling, or bluish color in the leg or foot
  17. painful or difficult urination
  18. pale stools
  19. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  20. rapid weight gain
  21. rigidity
  22. ringing, buzzing, or other unexplained sounds in the ears
  23. skin rash, hives, or itching
  24. sore throat, chills, and fever
  25. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  26. swelling of the face, hands, feet, or lower legs
  27. swollen or painful glands
  28. sudden decrease in the amount of urine
  29. tightness in the chest
  30. trembling
  31. troubled breathing
  32. uncontrolled body movements
  33. unusual tiredness or weakness
  34. visual hallucinations (seeing things that are not there)
  35. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Dizziness (mild)
  2. drowsiness (mild)
  3. lightheadedness
  4. nausea or vomiting (mild)

Less common or rare

  1. Accidental injury
  2. aching joints or muscles
  3. acid or sour stomach
  4. back pain
  5. belching
  6. constipation
  7. diarrhea
  8. dryness of the mouth
  9. headache
  10. heartburn
  11. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight (skin rash, itching, redness or other discoloration of the skin, or severe sunburn)
  12. increased sweating
  13. indigestion
  14. irritation or soreness of the tongue or mouth
  15. lack or loss of strength
  16. loss of hair
  17. loss of memory
  18. problems with memory
  19. sexual problems in males
  20. sleepiness
  21. stomach pain, upset, or discomfort
