Raymond W. Pak, M.D., M.B.A.

My name is Raymond Pak. I'm currently a urologist in the Department of Urology. I'm a consultant and I currently serve as the chair of the Department of Urology. Becoming a doctor for me was a natural choice as I'm a second-generation physician, both my parents were physicians growing up and they inspired me to follow in their career path. I have a particular interest in prostate cancer. I typically help men to diagnose potential prostate cancer, but also to help educate them about the treatment options. The landscape of treatment options for prostate cancer can be quite challenging and scary for patients, frankly, due to the many choices that they have to make along that path. One of my passions and what I do every day is helping guide them to make the best decisions for their personal situation. There are very few medical institutions that really truly live by the motto that the needs of the patients come first. I feel working at Mayo Clinic allows me to focus on the patient's needs and make that the top priority. As a physician, I've always been focused on the science of medicine. But really the art and delivery of medicine is the unspoken difficulty in practicing medicine. A lot of people can master the science, but really mastering relationships with patients is really what the art of medicine is about. I believe Mayo Clinic is a very unique place where we value the patient's needs, but we also value cutting edge research, educating future physicians, and providing the best care to our patients possible.
