James W. Jakub, M.D., is high volume surgeon whose clinical focus includes:

  • Expertise in management of both benign and malignant breast disease, including prophylactic mastectomies, such as nipple sparring mastectomies combined with reconstruction, for patients at high-risk. He is one of the few surgeons in the country offering robotic nipple sparing mastectomy on a clinical trial. As part of a multidisciplinary team, he offers expert surgical management, when appropriate, for all stages of breast cancer including early and advanced and/or recurrent disease.
  • Expertise in cutaneous oncology including Melanoma and Merkel cell carcinoma.
  • Recognized expert in lymph node surgery for many types of cancer.
  • With a multidisciplinary team, manages locally recurrent and in-transit melanoma including local-regional therapies such as hyperthermic isolated limb perfusion and intralesional therapy, often combined with immunotherapy.
  • A leader in disseminating novel techniques such as minimally invasive inguinal lymph node surgery and radioactive seed localized breast surgery.
  • Provides compassionate care tailoring the surgical management to each patient's unique circumstances.
  • Focuses on treating cancer while trying to minimize side effects and optimize quality of life. One example is offering lymphovenous bypass at the time of lymph node dissection in an attempt to minimize the risk of lymphedema.

In addition to his busy clinical practice, Dr. Jakub is course director for breast cancer and melanoma meetings that educate 100s of providers each year. He publishes his work in high-impact scientific journals and serves as an editor on two of the most recognized surgical cancer journals in the U.S.
