Biographical summary
Ryan Kern, M.D., is a consultant in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine with clinical expertise in interventional pulmonology. Dr. Kern specializes in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy and pleural interventions, including the evaluation and management of central airway diseases such as tracheal and bronchial stenosis, pleural disease, lung cancer diagnosis, staging and treatment, and transplant bronchoscopy.
His clinical practice focuses on advanced minimally invasive interventions in the lungs, airways and pleural space. Dr. Kern has special expertise in complex airway stenting, including the use of 3D printing technology to support individualized procedural planning and treatment.
Dr. Kern earned his medical degree from Rush University Medical College and completed internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. He also completed an interventional pulmonology fellowship at Mayo Clinic. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine and interventional pulmonology. He serves as director of Interventional Pulmonology and fellowship program director. His research interests include clinical device trials, device innovation, and robotic bronchoscopy.
