Dominika Jegen, M.D., M.A., CCFP(EM), FCFP, DABFM, is a family physician at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She practices comprehensive, full-scope family medicine across the lifespan, including prenatal and obstetric care, preventive care, acute and chronic disease management, and a broad range of office-based procedures. She is also actively engaged in research, medical education, and academic scholarship.

Dr. Jegen was born in Poland and grew up in Germany and Canada. She completed undergraduate degrees in Biology and Sociology and a Master's degree in Medical Sociology before earning her medical degree from the University of Calgary in Canada. She subsequently completed her Family Medicine residency at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.

Following residency, Dr. Jegen spent four years practicing remote medicine in Northern Canada, including communities in Ontario, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. Her work caring for Indigenous and Inuit patients in geographically isolated and resource-limited settings had a lasting influence on her approach to medicine and fostered enduring interests in rural health, health disparities, access to care, and the social and environmental determinants of health.

Dr. Jegen subsequently practiced in several diverse settings across the United States. She provided care in an underserved rural community in Mississippi and later served as a Clinical Director in Seattle, where she cared for a predominantly immigrant and multicultural patient population. She subsequently joined Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Her research and scholarly interests include environmental health, rural and underserved populations, primary care, preventive medicine, health disparities, and implementation of evidence-based interventions in community and clinical settings. A particular focus of her current work is private well-water safety and the role of primary care and community partnerships in identifying and reducing environmental health risks. Her work seeks to translate research findings into practical interventions that improve health at both the individual patient and population levels.

Dr. Jegen is actively involved in academic medicine and medical education. She teaches and mentors medical students, residents, and other learners and contributes to the medical literature through clinical research, educational scholarship, reviews, and case-based publications. She has presented her scholarly and educational work at national and international meetings and has been invited to share her expertise with physicians and other health professionals in academic settings in the United States and internationally.

Her approach to clinical care emphasizes compassionate, comprehensive, and evidence-based medicine. She values listening carefully to patients, understanding their individual circumstances and priorities, and developing long-term therapeutic relationships. Preventive care and patient well-being are central to her practice.

Outside of clinical medicine, Dr. Jegen enjoys academic and medical writing, international travel, concerts, and car shows. An avid traveler, she has visited countries throughout the world and hopes eventually to reach 100. She is married and shares her home with a Doberman Pinscher and a royal python.
