Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. High blood pressure
  2. lack or loss of strength
  3. severe headache
  4. sweating

Less common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. chest pain
  3. fast or irregular heartbeat
  4. mood or mental changes
  5. ringing or buzzing in the ears
  6. suicidal thoughts


  1. Actions that are out of control
  2. convulsions
  3. high fever
  4. high or low blood pressure
  5. irritability
  6. itching or skin rash
  7. lightheadedness or fainting, especially when getting up suddenly from a sitting or lying position
  8. menstrual changes
  9. nervousness
  10. problems with urinating or holding urine
  11. severe muscle stiffness
  12. talking, feeling, and acting with excitement that you cannot control
  13. trouble breathing
  14. unusually pale skin

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. bloody, black, or tarry stools
  3. bloody stool or urine
  4. confusion
  5. dark urine
  6. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  7. diarrhea
  8. drowsiness
  9. fever
  10. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  11. headache
  12. increased thirst
  13. light-colored stools
  14. muscle cramps, spasms, or pain
  15. nausea or vomiting
  16. nosebleeds
  17. overactive reflexes
  18. poor coordination
  19. red or purple spots on skin
  20. restlessness
  21. shivering
  22. stomach pain on upper right side
  23. swelling of the face, lower legs, ankles, hands, or fingers
  24. trembling or shaking that is hard to control
  25. twitching
  26. unusual bruising
  27. unusual tiredness or weakness
  28. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  29. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Abnormal dreams
  2. chills
  3. constipation
  4. decrease in sexual desire or ability
  5. diarrhea
  6. drowsiness
  7. dry mouth
  8. heartburn
  9. increased sweating
  10. loss of appetite
  11. nausea
  12. stomach pain or gas
  13. stuffy or runny nose
  14. tingling, burning, or prickly sensations
  15. trembling or shaking
  16. trouble sleeping
  17. unusual tiredness or weakness
  18. vomiting
  19. weight loss

Less common

  1. Change in taste
  2. muscle tension
  3. yawning

Incidence not known

  1. Night sweats
