Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  3. bloody or cloudy urine
  4. body aches or pain
  5. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  6. chest tightness
  7. chills
  8. cold or flu-like symptoms
  9. congestion
  10. cough or hoarseness
  11. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  12. difficulty with breathing
  13. dryness or soreness of the throat
  14. ear congestion
  15. fever
  16. frequent urge to urinate
  17. headache
  18. loss of ability to use or understand speech or language
  19. loss of bladder control
  20. loss of voice
  21. lower back or side pain
  22. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  23. partial or slight paralysis
  24. rapid weight gain
  25. seizures
  26. shakiness and unsteady walk
  27. sneezing
  28. sore throat
  29. stuffy or runny nose
  30. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  31. tingling of the hands or feet
  32. trouble swallowing
  33. troubled breathing
  34. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  35. unusual tiredness or weakness
  36. unusual weight gain or loss
  37. voice changes

Less common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. dizziness
  4. fast heartbeat
  5. flushing or redness of the skin
  6. hives, itching, or skin rash
  7. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  8. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  9. unusual bleeding or bruising
  10. unusually warm skin

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. clay colored stools
  3. decreased appetite
  4. deep, dark purple bruise
  5. diarrhea
  6. joint or muscle pain
  7. nausea or vomiting
  8. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  9. red, irritated eyes
  10. small red or purple spots on the skin
  11. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  12. stomach pain or tenderness
  13. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Back pain
  2. being forgetful
  3. blurred vision
  4. breast pain
  5. change in walking and balance
  6. clumsiness or unsteadiness
  7. constipation
  8. discouragement
  9. fear or nervousness
  10. feeling sad or empty
  11. hair loss or thinning of the hair
  12. irritability
  13. lack or loss of strength
  14. loss of interest or pleasure
  15. problems with memory
  16. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  17. tiredness
  18. trouble concentrating
  19. trouble sleeping
  20. weight loss

Less common

  1. Change in taste or bad unusual or unpleasant (after) taste
  2. changes in vision
  3. difficulty with moving
  4. double vision
  5. dry skin
  6. increased weight
  7. mood or mental changes
  8. muscle aching or cramping
  9. muscle stiffness
  10. seeing double
  11. swollen joints

Incidence not known

  1. Bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of the skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
