Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. confusion
  3. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  4. sweating
  5. unusual tiredness or weakness

Rare

  1. Bloody urine
  2. blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  3. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  4. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  5. chest pain or discomfort
  6. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  7. decreased urine output
  8. difficult or trouble breathing
  9. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  10. extremely shallow or slow breathing
  11. fainting
  12. fast heartbeat
  13. increased blood pressure
  14. increased thirst
  15. indigestion
  16. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  17. lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting
  18. loss of appetite
  19. lower back or side pain
  20. nausea
  21. painful urination
  22. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  23. severe constipation
  24. severe vomiting
  25. slow or irregular heartbeat
  26. stomach pain or upset
  27. swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs
  28. tenderness in the stomach area
  29. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness
  30. vomiting
  31. weakness
  32. weight gain

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. chest tightness
  3. cough
  4. darkening of the skin
  5. diarrhea
  6. difficulty swallowing
  7. fever
  8. hives, itching, skin rash
  9. increased sensitivity to pain
  10. mental depression
  11. overactive
  12. reflexes
  13. poor coordination
  14. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  15. restlessness
  16. shivering
  17. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  18. trembling or shaking
  19. twitching
  20. worsening of pain

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Blue lips and fingernails
  2. blurred vision
  3. chest pain
  4. choking
  5. cold and clammy skin
  6. constricted pupils
  7. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  8. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  9. difficult or trouble breathing
  10. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  11. loss of consciousness
  12. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  13. severe sleepiness
  14. slow heartbeat
  15. swelling in the legs and ankles

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Headache

Rare

  1. Anxiety
  2. belching
  3. bloated
  4. confusion about identity, place, and time
  5. difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  6. drowsiness
  7. dry mouth
  8. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  9. false or unusual sense of well-being
  10. feeling of warmth
  11. forgetfulness
  12. full feeling
  13. heartburn
  14. indigestion
  15. muscle spasm
  16. passing gas
  17. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
  18. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  19. trouble sleeping
